Winter (December to February)
This is Gulmarg at its most famous. Snowfall usually blankets the meadows and slopes, the Gondola runs through a landscape of white pine forests, and the town takes on a hushed, storybook quality. It's the season for skiing, snowboarding and simply watching snow fall from a warm room. Roads can occasionally be affected by heavy snowfall, so it's worth keeping travel plans a little flexible and checking conditions before you set out.
Spring (March to May)
As the snow begins to melt, Gulmarg's meadows turn green again and wildflowers start to appear across the valley. The weather is mild, the crowds are thinner than in peak winter or summer, and the mountain views are exceptionally clear. It's a quieter, more contemplative time to visit.
Summer (June to August)
Summer brings cool, pleasant weather that's a welcome escape from the heat elsewhere in India. This is peak season for golf on one of the highest green golf courses in the world, gentle walks through the meadows, and day trips to nearby waterfalls and viewpoints. Expect more visitors during this stretch, especially around weekends and holidays.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn is Gulmarg's best-kept secret. The forests turn shades of gold and amber, the air is crisp, and the trails are far less crowded. It's an excellent season for photography and for travellers who prefer a slower pace.

If snow is the main draw, aim for January. If you'd rather have the mountains largely to yourself while still enjoying comfortable weather, late September through October is hard to beat.
